What it is
This model encourages schools, child welfare agencies, healthcare providers, faith communities, and local organizations to work together with a shared understanding of trauma.
Through training, collaboration, and practical strategies, trauma-informed communities prioritize safety, connection, and compassion in everyday interactions. This approach empowers professionals and caregivers to respond to challenges with empathy while strengthening protective factors that support children and families. When communities adopt trauma-informed practices, they create environments where individuals feel seen, supported, and equipped to grow—ultimately fostering healthier families and stronger communities.
The Approach
Trauma-Informed Communities is an approach championed by Becky Haas that focuses on helping entire communities understand the impact of trauma and respond in ways that promote healing and resilience.
By building awareness of how adversity affects behavior, relationships, and development, communities can shift from asking “What’s wrong with you?” to “What
happened to you?” and “How can we help?”
Omni Family Institute has partnered with Becky Haas to provide the Basics of Trauma, ACEs, Resilience, and a Trauma-Informed Approach to community partners.
